Meet Rowan, a 13-year-old tenderhearted boy that was recently diagnosed with an aggressive and rare form of cancer-
a diagnosis that has thrown his family into a tailspin of tests, treatments, surgeries, and chemotherapy, turning their lives upside down.
Childhood cancer threatens more than just one’s health.
From enduring surgeries and chemotherapy at 13, with its resulting side effects day after day, and the significant emotional challenges a sibling experiences, to the stressors that cause marital tensions and struggles – cancer effects every aspect of a family’s life.
Within moments on the water, Rowan was able to sit back and soak up the healing benefits of the fresh air, the cool water, and the bright sun.
He picked up a rod and reeled in fish after fish, each catch a reminder of the strength he has in him. An angler was made this day!
Dad, who carries so much weight on his shoulders, was able to take a breath, and with each cast, release a little bit.
Mom, whose heart is hanging on by a thread, was able to share some of her childhood memories with her own kids, bringing joy and healing in the process.
Siblings of cancer patients go through their own sets of challenges, having to adjust their own lives, not always fully understanding why.
Within an hour, this apprehensive little sister was hopping from rock to rock collecting seashells, laughing and playing, as all the hard things faded into the distance. She even caught two fish!
Called Beyond Adventures crew had thought of everything. We were able to show up and enjoy the blessings they had thoughtfully and carefully planned. In the end our families found ourselves bonding and felt as if we had been friends for much longer.
